If you thought Season 2 was intense, there’s a whole lot more where that came from! The Vampire Diaries’ executive producer Julie Plec says Season 3 will be full of surprises for all the main characters, includingStefanDamonElena, and, of course, Jeremy “I See Dead People” Gilbert.

First, if you weren’t shocked by the return of Jeremy’s vampire exes Anna and Vicki, you’re probably undead yourself. But things will get even more complicated as we start to unravel the reasons for the rebellious beauties’ homecomings.

“We'll get a good sense in the first episode or two how they're manifesting themselves and where they're coming from,” Plec tells TV Guide. “As we get deeper into the season, we'll start to understand that they have a compass and they have their own master plan.”
Plec teases we’ll have to “wait and see whether or not that's a diabolical master plan,” but be forewarned: “the minute you get any supernatural entity dropping into Mystic Falls, somebody is going to be at risk.” We know what means; a loss of life is most definitely on TVD writers’ Season 3 checklist.

Not only will Jeremy’s life be in jeopardy (again), but his relationship with Bonnie could hit a rough patch, too. Plec says the Bonemy romance “is a nice, new, warm, wonderful, healthy relationship” which will get “tested when the [more volatile] relationship comes back.” And by relationship, we think she means relationships. Jeremy is going to be one in-demand dude come fall.

As for the other romances on the show, Plec reveals “anything can happen” between Damon and Elena now that the floodgates have been opened (a.ka., their lips have met). They’ll definitely have to deal with the repercussions of the kiss, all the while trying to stay calm and be there for Stefan, who Plec says we’ll see “go down a very dark path.” Is this a case of trading places for the Salvatore brothers? Sure sounds like it!
